Menu Plan Monday - 8 October

This week’s menu plan is made easier by the fact I’m working today and tomorrow, and mother-in-law is feeding the family. It cuts two days out I don’t have to think about.

Monday - Mother-in-law
Tuesday - Mother-in-law
Wednesday - Vegetarian Nachos
Thursday - Apricot Chicken
Friday - Meat pie, mashed potato & vegetables
Saturday - Spaghetti Bolognaise
Sunday - Tomato macaroni cheese

While on the subject, Hubby has decided something in rice doesn’t agree with him, so doesn’t want to eat it anymore. Any ideas on what to serve in it’s place for him? I love rice, and so do the kids, so it’s not going to disappear from the menu, but it might need some variation for him.

As always, stick your nose into what everyone else is eating at I’m an Organizing Junkie

Great menu plan! Just an idea instead of rice, how about roasted potatoes?

We are not a rice family at all… apart from my severe inability to cook it properly, my hubby is not a big fan. In its place we eat potato - baked, mashed, boiled, add bits like diced bacon or a teaspoon of garlic or something…

Have you tried using a different variety of rice and seeing how he does with that? Just a thought.

Ordinary potato every night isnt too good for you (is one of the carbs that turns your body metabolises to sugar/fat storage) but you could try Sweet potato alternating with normal potato. Also other vegis like carrot?

Couscous is a good idea from ali.

I wonder what it is with the rice that upsets him as its one of the few foods that are part of the basic “clean” diet, ie it doesnt contain natural chemicals that are known to cause reactions, such as salicylates, amines, wheat/gluten, lactose, etc.

Maybe try him with a heap of potato and if he has the same feelings towards it, it may be that his body just doesnt tolerate carbs very well, I know mine doesn’t, i can only eat small portions of rice and potato (they are my only carbs excepting when i am naughty and eat something with wheat in it) without getting bad hiccups, feeling heavy and bloated.

I read your menu plan before reading the preceding paragraph and thought for just a moment you were eating the mother in law……. Does hubby like pasta? Or maybe try a different type of rice? Try couscous too, although I’ve found that once it’s served onto the plate it gets cold pretty quickly.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The reason we’ve been having so much rice is a) the kids love it, and b) it’s probably the best carb (over potato & pasta). He does eat pasta but I suspect it may be starting to have the same result as rice.

I keep telling him to go to the dr, but you know men!
