Tight budgets

Despite my enthusiastic new financial year post, the cash aint flowing here just yet. In fact, there are so many bills leftover that we are still on the “week to week” budget program. Here’s how it works:

  1. Work out how much money is due in this week.
  2. Pay the mortgage.
  3. Put aside money for food & fuel
  4. Pay off the highest priority bills until all the money is spent.
  5. If there is money left over, put it in the bills account for the bills next week, and start planning a real budget.

Guess what! No money left this week. Probably not next week either. Of course the week the tax returns come through it’s a different story. but until then…

I did quite well this week on the grocery shopping, only spent $80. We’re also staying home a lot so petrol use is quite down. Maybe I will get these bills paid of next week after all….
